Amazon India is sharpening its focus on simplifying technology purchases through artificial intelligence, with the launch of its new “AI Tech Lab” storefront aimed at reducing complexity for consumers. The move reflects the company’s broader strategy to make tech discovery more intuitive by shifting from specification-heavy listings to use-case-driven recommendations.
Speaking about the initiative, Zeba Khan, Director of Consumer Electronics at Amazon India, said the platform is addressing what she described as “cognitive load” — the difficulty many users face when navigating technical jargon while shopping for gadgets. The AI-powered storefront curates products such as smartphones, laptops, and appliances based on real-world usage scenarios rather than detailed specifications, making it easier for customers to choose.
The strategy comes amid a strong growth phase for premium electronics in 2026. According to Khan, categories such as laptops, tablets, premium smartphones, and large appliances have seen double-digit growth, with high-end televisions — particularly QLED and mini LED models above 55 inches — witnessing a surge of up to 77% year-on-year. Advanced appliances like washer-dryers are also experiencing rapid adoption, growing nearly threefold over the same period.

A notable trend highlighted by the company is the rising purchasing power in non-metro markets. Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are now outpacing metros in premium tech spending, with average selling prices reported to be about 5% higher in these regions. Additionally, nearly two-thirds of AI-related product searches on the platform are coming from these smaller cities, indicating a shift in consumption patterns beyond traditional urban hubs.
Amazon India is also expanding its suite of AI-driven shopping tools, including features such as price history tracking and smarter product comparisons. These tools aim to improve transparency and help buyers make informed decisions. Khan noted that the company is focusing on affordability through mechanisms like no-cost EMIs, exchange offers, and cashback deals, especially as global component costs, such as memory, continue to rise.
The newly launched AI Tech Lab is positioned as a “Bharat-first” initiative, designed to cater to users across diverse geographies — from students in smaller towns to professionals in large cities. By focusing on education, accessibility, and curated discovery, Amazon India is seeking to redefine how consumers engage with technology shopping, while capitalising on the growing demand for AI-enabled devices across the country.
