Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a record-breaking innings of 97 runs off just 29 balls to power the Rajasthan Royals to a commanding 47-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring IPL knockout clash on Wednesday. The explosive knock helped Rajasthan secure a place in Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans, keeping their Indian Premier League title hopes alive. The Royals posted a massive total of 243/8, built largely around Sooryavanshi’s aggressive stroke play and rapid scoring at the top of the order.
Sooryavanshi’s innings was defined by extraordinary power-hitting, as he smashed 12 sixes and dominated one of the tournament’s most feared bowling attacks. The left-handed opener reached his half-century in just 16 deliveries, setting the tone for Rajasthan’s innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, who provided steady support at the other end. His innings included a brutal assault on the opposition attack, with multiple overs going for heavy runs as Rajasthan built an unassailable foundation early in the innings.
In the process, the 15-year-old batter broke a long-standing IPL record previously held by Chris Gayle, surpassing the mark for the most sixes in a single edition of the tournament. His season tally now stands at 65 sixes, further underlining his emergence as one of the most destructive young batters in franchise cricket. Sooryavanshi also crossed 680 runs for the season, putting him firmly in contention for the Orange Cap as the league approaches its final stages.

Rajasthan’s momentum continued after Sooryavanshi’s dismissal, with Dhruv Jurel accelerating the scoring rate through a rapid 20-ball half-century. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to pull things back slightly in the final overs, restricting Rajasthan to just 36 runs in the last five overs. Despite the late resistance, the Royals’ total proved far beyond Hyderabad’s reach on a pitch that favored aggressive batting.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chase never gained stability as Rajasthan’s bowlers struck early and consistently. Jofra Archer led the attack with a fiery spell, taking three quick wickets and dismantling the top order, including key batters Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Travis Head. The pressure intensified as wickets continued to fall, leaving Hyderabad struggling to recover from the early blows.
Ultimately, Sunrisers were bowled out for 196, falling well short of the target as Rajasthan secured a comprehensive win. The result sets up a crucial Qualifier 2 clash against Gujarat Titans, with the winner earning a spot in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Sooryavanshi’s sensational innings, however, remained the defining moment of the match, marking one of the standout performances of the IPL season.
