Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar is poised to make a strong push at the International Series Philippines, held from October 23 to 26, 2025, at Sta. Elena Golf Club, aiming to elevate his game after a disappointing finish in Indonesia. The 11-time Asian Tour champion, currently ranked 35th in the season-long International Series standings, was tied for the lead entering the final round of the Jakarta International Championship three weeks ago but faltered with a four-over-par score, finishing T19. The event, part of nine elevated Asian Tour tournaments offering a pathway to LIV Golf, saw Australia’s Wade Ormsby claim victory, with Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent taking the rankings lead. Bhullar’s pursuit of a top result is critical as the series nears its climax with four events in five weeks.
The International Series Philippines, making its debut with a $2 million purse, features a formidable field, including major champions Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, and Louis Oosthuizen, alongside 11 other LIV Golf stars. Bhullar, undeterred by the competition, emphasised his refined approach: “I’ve been striking the ball well and staying consistent. I’ve worked hard on my mental game—focusing, visualising, meditating—and I feel both mentally and physically in a great place.” His preparation reflects a strategic overhaul, blending physical fitness with mental resilience, inspired by a need to rebound from Jakarta’s setback.
Bhullar’s first-round performance on October 23 showcased his potential, carding a 5-under-par 67 with six birdies and one bogey, securing a tied-seventh position alongside Johnson and others. Thailand’s Sarit Suwannarut led with an 8-under 64, while England’s Richard Bland, at 6-under, was the top LIV golfer. Bhullar’s consistent ball-striking and mental focus were evident, though he faces a steep challenge to climb the leaderboard against a field of global heavyweights. Other Indian players, including Ajeetesh Sandhu and SSP Chawrasia, trailed at T-35 and T-108, respectively, highlighting Bhullar’s standout role.

With the Sta. Elena Golf Club’s pristine conditions favouring low scores, Bhullar’s strategy remains straightforward: “The approach is always the same—72 holes, make more birdies, fewer bogeys.” His optimism is bolstered by the event’s significance, elevating golf’s profile in the Philippines, as he noted its growing popularity since his 2007 visit. A strong finish could boost his rankings and keep alive his LIV Golf aspirations, making this tournament a pivotal moment in his 2025 campaign.
