Anupama Ramachandran scripted history on November 23, 2025, becoming the first Indian woman to win the IBSF World Snooker Championship (15-red) title after edging out three-time champion Ng On Yee of Hong Kong 3-2 in a nail-biting final in Bengaluru. The 23-year-old from Chennai held her nerve in the deciding frame, capitalizing on Yee’s missed black ball when trailing 60-61 to pot the final colors and seal a historic triumph on home soil.
The victory marks a monumental breakthrough for Indian women’s cue sports. Trailing 1-2 after three frames, Anupama mounted a stunning comeback, winning the fourth frame convincingly before the dramatic decider that saw the experienced Yee falter at the crucial moment. The packed crowd at the Karnataka State Billiards Association erupted as the young Indian cleared the table to clinch the coveted crown.
Anupama’s journey began at age 13 during a summer camp at Chennai’s Mylapore Club, where her natural flair caught immediate attention. Trained by her uncle, sports performance specialist K. Narayanan, she dominated junior circuits with eight national titles and a World Under-16 crown in Russia in 2017. She has since established herself as a senior force, winning the 2023 Women’s Snooker World Cup alongside Amee Kamani, the World Under-21 title the same year, and reaching the final of the 2024 US Women’s Open. Her current world ranking of No. 6 is set to soar following this triumph.
