Chennai Super Kings secured a convincing 32-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash on Tuesday, deepening KKR’s struggles this season. The defeat leaves Kolkata at the bottom of the points table, still searching for their first win after four losses and one no result.
KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane acknowledged that his team performed admirably with the ball, especially after conceding over 70 runs in the powerplay. He credited the bowling unit for pulling things back and restricting CSK to 192 on a batting-friendly surface. However, Rahane pointed out that the batting unit failed to capitalise on the conditions, managing only a slow start and struggling to accelerate against spin during the middle overs.
Reflecting on the chase, Rahane emphasised the need for one batter to anchor the innings till the end. He noted that while the pitch remained conducive for stroke play, the lack of a sustained partnership and inability to maintain momentum ultimately cost KKR the match. The captain’s own effort of 28 runs, along with Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s 27, briefly steadied the innings but was not enough to mount a serious challenge.

Rahane also hinted at possible changes in team combinations as KKR’s losing streak continues. He admitted that while the team had initially backed a settled lineup, consistent defeats have made it necessary to reassess strategies. Despite the setbacks, he stressed the importance of maintaining a positive mindset within the squad and focusing on immediate improvements.
Earlier in the match, CSK posted a competitive 192/5 in their 20 overs, powered by key contributions from Sanju Samson, who scored 48 off 32 balls, and Dewald Brevis, who added 41 off 29. For KKR, Kartik Tyagi was the standout bowler with figures of 2/35.
In response, KKR faltered early and, despite a brief recovery, suffered a collapse triggered by a decisive spell from Noor Ahmad. The team eventually finished at 160/7, falling well short of the target. With this win, CSK climbed to eighth place in the standings, while KKR faces mounting pressure to turn their campaign around.
