India captain Harmanpreet Kaur made history on Thursday by becoming the most-capped player in women’s international cricket. She achieved the milestone during the second T20I against Australia at the Manuka Oval, marking her 356th international match and surpassing the previous record of 355 held by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates.
Kaur, who debuted in 2009, has enjoyed a prolific career across all three formats, with six Tests, 161 ODIs, and 189 T20Is to her name. The record-setting match also marked her 189th T20I appearance, further cementing her status as one of the game’s most experienced and accomplished players.
Her career has been defined by leadership and major achievements, including guiding India to their maiden ODI World Cup triumph in 2025 and a recent T20I series win in England. Earlier this month, Kaur was also honoured with the Padma Shri for her outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.

India entered the second T20I holding a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, which forms part of a broader multi-format tour including three ODIs and a one-off Test. The first match at the Sydney Cricket Ground saw India register a 21-run victory under the DLS method, highlighted by a career-best bowling performance from Arundhati Reddy.
Reddy’s figures of 4-22 dismantled Australia’s batting lineup, despite early resistance from Georgia Wareham, Phoebe Litchfield, and Ellyse Perry. India’s innings had a strong start with openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana contributing 50 runs in just over five overs before rain halted play, handing India the victory via the DLS method.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s record-breaking milestone not only reflects her longevity and consistency but also her pivotal role in shaping the Indian women’s cricket team into a formidable force on the global stage. Her achievement inspires a new generation of cricketers while cementing her legacy in the sport.
