The Indian Premier League has been ranked third among the world’s leading men’s domestic T20 competitions in the latest assessment released by the World Cricketers’ Association. The updated rankings place England’s The Hundred at the top, followed by South Africa’s SA20.
The rankings are part of the WCA’s “Leagues Hub", which evaluates competitions based on a weighted scoring system out of 100. The criteria focus on player conditions, protections, and professional standards, drawing inputs from players, agents, and cricket associations, along with survey feedback and benefit data.
Despite being the wealthiest T20 league globally, the IPL scored 62.6, trailing behind The Hundred (75.2) and the SA20 (68.0). The league, however, received full marks for average player payments and payment reliability, reinforcing its financial dominance in the global cricket ecosystem.

The lower overall ranking was attributed to relatively weaker scores in areas related to player rights and protections. These include aspects such as contract security, welfare measures, and governance standards, which played a significant role in determining the final rankings.
Other leagues featured in the rankings include Australia’s Big Bash League (62.5), Pakistan’s Pakistan Super League (48.0), and the USA-based Major League Cricket (43.0), among others, highlighting the expanding footprint of franchise cricket worldwide.
WCA chief executive Tom Moffat said the rapid growth of domestic leagues has been positive for the sport but emphasised the need for stronger global standards. He added that the rankings are intended not to undermine leagues but to promote transparency, improve player conditions, and encourage collaboration to elevate professional standards across cricket.
