Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been included in India's 30-member probables list for the upcoming Asian Games following a remarkable IPL 2026 campaign. The 15-year-old left-hander impressed selectors after scoring 776 runs in 16 matches, emerging as one of the standout performers of the tournament and earning recognition from the national selection committee.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has submitted the list of probables to the Indian Olympic Association for the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. The men's cricket competition will take place between September 24 and October 3, overlapping with India's home white-ball series against the West Indies.
To manage the scheduling clash, the BCCI is expected to field separate squads for the Asian Games and the West Indies series. As a result, several senior players are likely to be assigned to different teams depending on workload management and future tournament priorities. The move is aimed at ensuring adequate depth while maintaining competitiveness in both assignments.

Notably, T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav and India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill have not been included in the Asian Games longlist. Gill is expected to be involved with the ODI squad for the West Indies series, while reports suggest Suryakumar is no longer being considered for India's long-term plans leading up to the 2028 T20 World Cup and the Los Angeles Olympics.
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named among the probables, although he is not expected to participate in the Asian Games. With the ODI World Cup scheduled next year in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, team management is likely to prioritise Bumrah's workload and preparation for the 50-over format.
The race for the Asian Games captaincy is expected to centre around Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma. The final squad and leadership group are expected to be announced closer to the tournament, with selectors balancing experience and youth as India targets another strong performance at the continental event.
