The trajectory of Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 has been similar. Both endured a succession of losses and have been confined to the bottom half of the points table.
However, both won their respective previous match in style. SRH remarkably chased down a daunting target of 246 against PBKS. MI edged out DC by 12 runs in an exciting encounter after scoring 205 batting first. Both MI and SRH are on four points in six matches at this stage in IPL 2025 with only net run-rate separating them on the points table.
So when they meet tonight at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai sparks are bound to fly. The aim of the two teams would be to find some consistency and momentum.

Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, has issues with its middle-order stability and death bowling. Jasprit Bumrah has returned from injury. But against DC, he had a rare off-day as he went for 44 in his 4 overs. Karun Nair smashed him around the park. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickleton have not clicked as openers. The team relies heavily on the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to anchor the innings, while Hardik Pandya's all-round capabilities have not kicked in consistently so far. He has had his moments both with the bat and ball. But MI needs more from him. Karn Sharma's form from the last match must be heartening for MI. He may again be the impact substitute tonight.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, captained by Pat Cummins, finds itself in a similar predicament with two wins from six games. Their batting lineup, featuring Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen, has shown flashes of brilliance but lacks consistency. Abhishek hit the highest score by an Indian in IPL ever in the previous tie against PBKS (141 off 55). So he will be in a great frame of mind. Ishan Kishan has tapered off after scoring a ton in his first outing.
The bowling attack, spearheaded by Mohammed Shami and Harshal Patel, will need to step up against MI's formidable batting lineup. Cummins' leadership and ability to deliver in crunch moments will also be crucial. He too hasn't made a mark this season.
The Wankhede pitch is known for its batting-friendly nature, and tonight's game is expected to be no different. The battle between Bumrah and SRH's top order, as well as Cummins' duel with MI's middle order, could define the outcome of the match.
