Punjab currently have 13 points and are scheduled to face Lucknow Super Giants in their final league match on May 23. Their qualification hopes largely depend on Rajasthan Royals losing their final fixture. A Punjab victory, combined with a Rajasthan defeat, would significantly improve their chances. Punjab also holds a slight advantage in net run rate over Kolkata Knight Riders, which could prove decisive if teams finish level on points.

Kolkata Knight Riders also remain firmly in contention and face Delhi Capitals in a crucial final fixture on May 24. Kolkata currently sits level with Punjab on 13 points but trails slightly in net run rate. For KKR to qualify comfortably, they would need Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings to lose while securing a victory themselves. If Punjab win their final match, Kolkata would then need a significant victory margin over Delhi to improve their net run rate sufficiently and move ahead in the standings.
Delhi Capitals technically remain in the playoff race but face the toughest qualification scenario among all the contenders. Delhi are currently on 12 points with a significantly inferior net run rate of -0.871, which severely damages their chances. Even if Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings both lose, Delhi would still need a massive win over Kolkata Knight Riders to dramatically improve their net run rate and overtake the competing teams. Cricket analysts consider their chances mathematically possible but practically extremely difficult.
The final round of league matches is now expected to produce a tense finish to the IPL 2026 league stage, with multiple qualification scenarios depending on points and net run-rate permutations. Rajasthan Royals remain favorites to secure the last playoff position because they control their own destiny heading into the final fixture. However, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders continue to have realistic hopes, ensuring that the final weekend of the tournament will carry major playoff implications across several matches.
