Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Sunil Narine created history during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, becoming the first overseas bowler to reach 200 wickets in the tournament. The milestone came during a disciplined bowling spell in which Narine conceded just 31 runs and picked up two crucial wickets.
Narine achieved the landmark in his 197th IPL appearance, dismissing SRH batters Ishan Kishan and Salil Arora during a crucial middle-overs phase. With this feat, he became only the third bowler overall to reach 200 IPL wickets, joining Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in an elite group. His milestone added another chapter to his long-standing reputation as one of the league’s most consistent match-winners.
The match itself saw SRH start strongly after opting to bat first, with explosive batting from opener Travis Head and support from Ishan Kishan. The pair powered the team to a strong position at 107 for 2 midway through the innings. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second half as SRH collapsed under sustained pressure from KKR’s bowling attack, eventually being bowled out for 165 in 19 overs.

KKR’s bowling unit, led by spinner Varun Chakravarthy, played a decisive role in triggering the collapse. Chakravarthy claimed three wickets for 26 runs, while Narine’s tight spells in the middle overs ensured SRH could not recover after losing key batters. The final phase of the innings saw SRH lose nine wickets for just 60 runs, marking their first all-out of the season.
SRH’s innings had initially been powered by Travis Head’s explosive 61 off 28 balls, supported by Ishan Kishan’s 42. However, once Head was dismissed at the end of the ninth over, the batting lineup unravelled quickly under sustained pressure. Fielding brilliance, including a standout catch by Rovman Powell, and disciplined bowling from KKR further tightened their grip on the game.
Narine’s milestone wicket—Kishan’s dismissal in the 16th over—proved to be the historic moment of the match, sealing his entry into IPL record books. With KKR’s bowlers dominating the second half of the innings, the performance reinforced Narine’s enduring impact in the league, even as SRH’s promising start faded into a comprehensive collapse.
