The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to allow 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's parents to accompany him on the upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England, a move aimed at easing the youngster's transition into the senior national team environment. The tour begins on June 26 in Belfast and marks Sooryavanshi's maiden call-up to India's T20 setup.
The teenage opener has been selected for a seven-match assignment comprising two T20 Internationals against Ireland and a five-match T20 series against England. Widely regarded as one of India's brightest young talents, Sooryavanshi's inclusion reflects the selectors' confidence in his ability while also highlighting the need for careful management of a player still in his school years.
Explaining the decision, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the board wanted to ensure that the 15-year-old receives the necessary emotional support during his first experience with the senior team. Saikia noted that introducing such a young cricketer to international cricket requires a balanced approach, allowing him to adapt gradually to the pressures and expectations of elite competition.

Drawing parallels with the past, Saikia recalled that cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar also entered international cricket as a teenager and required time to adjust to the demands of the highest level. The reference underlined the board's belief that exceptional talent must be nurtured with patience and proper guidance rather than being exposed to unnecessary pressure.
The BCCI's approach reflects a broader focus on player welfare, particularly for young athletes making the leap to international cricket. By allowing Sooryavanshi's parents to travel with him, the board aims to provide a familiar support system that can help him remain comfortable while adapting to new teammates, foreign conditions and the rigorous schedule of an international tour.
The Ireland and England series will offer Sooryavanshi an opportunity to gain valuable experience against quality opposition while remaining under the close supervision of the team management and support staff. With expectations already high around the teenage batter, the BCCI's carefully planned strategy seeks to prioritise his long-term development, ensuring that one of India's most promising young cricketers is given the best possible environment to flourish at the international level.
