The Indian cricket team, led by Shubman Gill, encountered significant travel disruptions en route to Perth for their upcoming ODI series against Australia, arriving at their hotel around 4 am on Thursday after a nearly four-hour flight delay in Delhi. The delay, which also necessitated rescheduling their connecting flight in Singapore, saw the team, including stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, and Prasidh Krishna, finally reach their destination in the early hours.
The first batch of players and support staff landed ahead of the remaining squad members, who are expected to join before the team’s initial warm-up session in Australia. With the first ODI scheduled for October 19 at Perth Stadium, the team will undergo a brief acclimatization period to prepare for the high-stakes series. The tour, comprising three ODIs followed by a five-match T20I series, marks a significant challenge for India as they aim to maintain their strong overseas form.
The series also heralds the much-anticipated return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to international cricket after a notable hiatus. With young captain Shubman Gill leading the side in their presence, the dynamic adds intrigue to an already eagerly awaited contest. The ODIs, set for October 19 in Perth, October 23 at Adelaide Oval, and October 25 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, will be followed by T20Is starting October 29.
