India captain Suryakumar Yadav has dropped key hints about the team’s combination for the T20 World Cup opener against the USA. Speaking to the media on Friday, he said India would not hesitate to play Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav together if conditions demand. He described the decision-making process as a “very good headache” for the team management.
Suryakumar said having multiple quality spinners gives the team flexibility against different opponents. While both Kuldeep and Chakravarthy featured in the recent series against New Zealand, they played together only once. The skipper stressed that the final decision would depend on match conditions and opposition strengths.
The Indian team’s preference for a deep batting line-up has often made it difficult to include both wrist spinners. However, Suryakumar said such selection challenges are healthy signs for a strong squad. He emphasised that the presence of world-class options allows India to adapt without compromising balance.

Addressing the batting combination, Suryakumar confirmed that Ishan Kishan will open the innings based on his current form. Kishan impressed in recent international matches and carried that momentum from domestic cricket into warm-up games. The skipper said Kishan is expected to bat no lower than No.3 in the tournament.
Suryakumar also dismissed concerns about having more left-handed batters in the lineup. He said modern players are well-prepared to face any bowling combination, making the debate over left-right balance overrated. According to him, the focus should remain on executing roles effectively for the team.
The captain acknowledged that playing at home brings added pressure but viewed it as a positive challenge. He said crowd support at venues like Wankhede Stadium would boost the team’s energy. Emphasising preparation, Suryakumar said India has studied opponents closely and is fully focused on starting the campaign strongly.
