Indian women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana is drawing strength from her own past words as she navigates the painful cancellation of her wedding to singer-composer Palash Muchhal, which was scheduled for November 23, 2025. An old Humans of Bombay interview from 2022 has resurfaced in which Mandhana spoke candidly about dealing with low phases, explaining how cricket taught her to treat every setback as temporary and every new day as a fresh innings starting from zero.
In the widely shared video, Mandhana revealed her coping mechanism: setting short-term goals. “If I feel low today, I will just start writing what I have to work on for the next six or seven days—in my batting or fitness. Once I start doing that, I just forget what’s happening and focus on what I have to do,” she said, adding that shifting her headspace to the immediate future always gave her something to look forward to.
“You have to always start your day as a new day because you start your innings on zero, even if you score a hundred,” she emphasised, a philosophy that now resonates deeply with fans amid her personal turmoil. The 29-year-old opener has already returned to training ahead of India’s five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka beginning December 21, channelling her energy back into the sport that has long been her anchor.

Mandhana’s calm and composed social media activity in recent days—liking posts about resilience and sharing training glimpses—reflects the same mindset she once described. Supporters have flooded comment sections with messages of solidarity, reminding her that millions see her as an inspiration both on and off the field.
As she prepares to lead India’s batting in the upcoming series, Mandhana appears determined to apply the very lessons she once shared: treating each day as a fresh start and focusing only on the next delivery life bowls.
