Cricket Scotland has officially accepted the ICC’s invitation to replace Bangladesh in the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, following Bangladesh’s withdrawal due to security concerns. CEO Trudy Lindblade expressed deep gratitude to the ICC for the opportunity, stating that the team is “preparing to arrive in India imminently” to acclimatise and compete.
Bangladesh was removed from the tournament on January 24, 2026, after refusing to travel to India despite the ICC’s assessment that no credible threats existed. Scotland will now join Group C alongside powerhouses England and West Indies, plus Nepal and Italy. The tournament kicks off on February 7, 2026, across various Indian venues.
Lindblade highlighted the significance of the moment: “This is an exciting opportunity for Scotland’s players to compete on the global stage in front of millions of supporters.” She acknowledged the unusual circumstances leading to the invitation but emphasised the squad’s readiness, noting they have been training for upcoming commitments and will now shift focus to the World Cup.

Cricket Scotland chairman Wilf Walsh revealed receiving a personal call from ICC chairman Jay Shah confirming the participation. “I was pleased to accept on behalf of our team, who are willing and ready to go,” he said, thanking the ICC and looking forward to facing top international sides.
The association added that squad selection details for the 15-member team will be announced in the coming days. Scotland’s swift response and enthusiasm contrast with Bangladesh’s stance, potentially opening doors for the associate nation to make a strong impression on cricket’s biggest stage.
This development reshapes Group C dynamics and adds an underdog story to the 20-team event, with Scotland eager to capitalise on the unexpected chance.
