Saransh Jain finally received his Test opportunity at the age of 33, more than a decade after beginning his first-class career. The Madhya Pradesh off-spinner was selected in India's XI for the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo after building his credentials through years of domestic cricket. His journey to the international level was marked by patience, consistency and a long wait for recognition.

Before making his Test debut, Jain had played 54 first-class matches and taken 188 wickets at an average of 27.31. He had also contributed 2,223 runs with the bat during his domestic career. His first-class journey began in the 2014-15 season, meaning he spent more than a decade competing in domestic cricket before finally earning a place in India's Test side.

India's spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule praised Jain's persistence and said the debutant had earned his opportunity through his performances over the years. Rather than being fast-tracked into international cricket, Jain followed a traditional route through the domestic system. His sustained performances eventually brought him into contention for a Test call-up.

Jain's debut in Colombo also demonstrated the composure that had helped him survive such a long wait. The wait for his first international wicket continued even after he entered India's playing XI. Nevertheless, his selection itself represented a significant milestone in a career built patiently through domestic cricket. His 188 first-class wickets had provided the statistical foundation for his selection, while his experience helped him handle the demands of Test cricket.

Bahutule's assessment of Jain's journey reflects the significance of his debut. After more than a decade of domestic cricket, the off-spinner finally received the opportunity he had worked towards for years.
