India’s 157 kmph pacer Umran Malik endured a difficult outing in the DY Patil T20 Cup, conceding 36 runs in a single over in a performance that quickly went viral on social media. Representing Tata Sports Club against Mumbai Customs, the Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler was first hit for 23 runs in his opening over before things worsened dramatically in his second spell.
The expensive over came in the 14th of the innings when Rugved More and Sachin Yadav took charge. After beginning with a single, Malik was struck for a boundary and then overstepped, with More dispatching the no-ball for six. Although the speedster managed a dot ball, the pressure continued to mount as More followed up with another four and six. A wide and another no-ball further compounded the damage before Yadav finished the over with a boundary and a six, taking the tally to 36 runs.
Malik eventually returned figures of 0 for 59 in just two overs as Mumbai Customs comfortably chased down the target in 16 overs to seal a nine-wicket victory over the Tata Sports Club. The outing was particularly disappointing for the express pacer, who is known for regularly breaching the 150 km/h mark and once clocked speeds touching 157 km/h.

In another match of the tournament held at the University Ground in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, Hardik Tamore’s aggressive 85 went in vain as Route Mobile fell eight runs short against DTDC in the 20th DY Patil T20 Cup. Despite strong bowling efforts from Yash Thakur (4/29) and Shams Mulani (3/18), Route Mobile could not chase down DTDC’s total of 182 for nine. However, the biggest talking point of the day remained Malik’s expensive over, which has since been widely shared across cricket circles online.
