India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was involved in a heated on-field exchange during Day 3 of the one-off Test against Afghanistan, as frustration built up over what he perceived as excessively passive batting from the opposition at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium. The incident unfolded when Afghanistan batter Sharafuddin Ashraf appeared unable to run between the wickets due to an injury, leaving Rahmat Shah to shoulder the batting responsibilities.

With limited movement at the non-striker’s end, the pair opted to block deliveries repeatedly without attempting to rotate strike or play attacking shots, resulting in a prolonged period of defensive play. Siraj, visibly frustrated by the lack of intent, confronted Rahmat Shah after delivering a ball, charging down the pitch and exchanging words with the batter. On-field cameras captured the pacer gesturing animatedly and pointing in frustration, while Rahmat Shah responded with a calm smile, avoiding escalation.

The moment briefly halted the intensity of play and drew attention from players and broadcasters alike. Former England spinner Graeme Swann, on commentary duty, described Siraj as “rattled” by the situation and sympathised with his reaction, questioning the intent of the Afghanistan batters during the passage of play. He remarked that Siraj had expressed frustration over the lack of competitive cricketing intent, suggesting the extended defensive approach disrupted the flow of the game.
