Injury-prone Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav has taken a major step toward full recovery, reaching 90 per cent bowling fitness following an extended rehabilitation period. The 23-year-old has been out of action for almost a year due to a lower back stress fracture, which significantly disrupted his promising rise in international cricket.
Mayank shot to fame during IPL 2024 with his express pace and impactful performances, earning a call-up to India’s T20 side. However, persistent back issues restricted him to just two competitive matches in the 2025 IPL season, raising concerns about his long-term fitness and workload management.
According to a BCCI official, Mayank is currently bowling at 90 per cent intensity with a workload of 18 overs per week at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The official noted that the pacer has made notable gains in strength and conditioning, putting him close to the physical demands required for elite-level fast bowling.

The next phase of his recovery will see Mayank gradually progress to 100 per cent bowling intensity. High-intensity fielding drills are also expected to be introduced in the coming weeks, subject to medical monitoring and symptom tolerance, indicating a cautious but positive approach from the support staff.
Despite his injury history, IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants have continued to back the young fast bowler, retaining him ahead of last month’s auction. The faith shown by the franchise highlights Mayank’s value as a rare pace talent and the belief that he can play a key role once fully fit.
Meanwhile, the BCCI also provided an update on batter Riyan Parag, who is recovering from a right shoulder injury. Parag has resumed batting in the nets and is pain-free, with a structured plan in place for him to return to bowling and throwing activities, signaling encouraging progress for another key Indian prospect.
