KL Rahul’s stellar performance in the recent five-Test series against England, where he amassed 532 runs at an average of 53.20 with two centuries and two fifties, has earned high praise from former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. In an exclusive interview with PTI, Nayar, now head coach of UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League, lauded Rahul’s dedication, noting that he began preparing for the England tour immediately after his last IPL match, even amidst personal milestones like the birth of his child.
“Every minute post the last IPL game was about how he can do well in this Test series,” Nayar said, highlighting Rahul’s commitment to excelling as an opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. While keeping specific technical changes under wraps to maintain their effectiveness, Nayar credited Rahul’s hard work and a bit of luck for his success. “He’s done all the dirty jobs and still performed at every number in the batting order,” he added.
Nayar also commended the Indian team’s resilience, particularly their fighting spirit in the Manchester Test, reflecting their hunger and passion for Test cricket. With the fifth Test underway, Nayar expressed confidence in India’s ability to close out the series, stating, “Indian cricket is in good hands.”
