Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah marked a decade in international cricket with an emotional reflection after delivering a match-winning spell against New Zealand in the third T20I on Sunday. Bumrah’s figures of 4 overs, 17 runs, and 3 wickets played a decisive role in India’s dominant performance and earned him the Player of the Match award, as the hosts sealed a comprehensive 3-0 series victory.
Speaking after the match, Bumrah acknowledged the physical and mental challenges he has faced since making his international debut in 2016. He referred to years of battling injuries, persistent pain, and doubts surrounding his unconventional bowling action. Despite early scepticism about his longevity, Bumrah has evolved into a key all-format bowler for India, repeatedly returning strongly from setbacks such as recurring back spasms.
Reflecting on his approach during the match, Bumrah highlighted his adaptability with the ball. He explained that he closely observed fellow bowlers Hardik Pandya and Rana earlier in the innings and adjusted once the ball became scuffed. Bumrah noted that he remains comfortable bowling in any phase of the innings, whether with the new ball or during the death overs, as long as he can contribute to the team’s success.

India’s dominance in the series was further underlined by a blistering batting display from Abhishek Sharma, who smashed 68 off just 20 balls during the chase of 154. His aggressive knock helped India complete the target in only 10 overs, showcasing the team’s attacking brand of cricket under captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Abhishek later admitted that maintaining such an explosive tempo consistently is mentally demanding but said it is a responsibility he is willing to shoulder for the team. He narrowly missed breaking his mentor Yuvraj Singh’s record for the fastest T20I fifty by an Indian, falling just two balls short, and described the milestone as extremely difficult to surpass.
With Bumrah’s sustained excellence and a fearless batting unit led by young talents like Abhishek, India appears to be building a formidable T20 side, combining experience, resilience, and an aggressive playing philosophy.
