Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has praised young wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma for his composure and match awareness following the team’s recent win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The youngster played a crucial role in guiding CSK to victory, showcasing maturity beyond his years during a steady run chase.
Chasing a modest target of 156 runs, CSK found themselves under slight pressure after losing back-to-back wickets during the innings. Kartik Sharma, who joined the crease at a critical juncture, built a match-winning 114-run partnership alongside experienced batter Sanju Samson. The duo’s effort ensured that CSK comfortably reached the target in just 17.3 overs.
Kartik remained unbeaten on 41 runs off 31 deliveries, anchoring the innings with a calm and calculated approach. His performance marked the second consecutive game in which he stayed till the end to see his team through, reinforcing his value as a dependable finisher. The 20-year-old, acquired for ₹14.20 crore, has begun to justify the franchise’s significant investment in him.

Speaking after the match, Hussey emphasized the importance of Samson’s presence at the crease, noting that the experienced player played a key role in guiding the youngster. He highlighted how Samson’s calmness and communication helped Kartik navigate the situation without unnecessary pressure, allowing him to focus on building the innings rather than chasing quick runs.
Hussey also praised Kartik’s natural game awareness, stating that the young batter demonstrated an understanding of match situations rarely seen at his age. He pointed out that Kartik resisted the temptation to play aggressive shots when unnecessary, instead pacing his innings sensibly. According to Hussey, this ability to assess conditions and adapt accordingly remains a valuable skill even in the power-driven modern format of the game.
With this victory, CSK moved to sixth place in the points table with 10 points from five matches, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The team will next face Lucknow Super Giants on May 10, where they will look to build on their momentum and improve their standing in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
