England produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat India by nine wickets in the fourth T20 International in Bristol on Thursday, sealing the five-match series with an unassailable 3-0 lead. Despite a fighting unbeaten 80 from India captain Shreyas Iyer, the visitors failed to defend a modest total as Harry Brook and Phil Salt powered England to victory with an explosive unbeaten partnership, extending India's disappointing run in the shortest format. Asked to bat first, India found themselves under pressure early after losing wickets at regular intervals on a lively English surface.
Amid the collapse, Iyer stood firm with a captain's knock, finishing unbeaten on 80 from 49 deliveries. His innings, which included four boundaries and five sixes, anchored the Indian total as he found little support from the other end. The skipper's composed effort helped India recover to 158 for 7, a total that appeared competitive but ultimately proved well below par. England's bowlers laid the foundation for the victory with another disciplined display. They consistently struck at crucial moments to prevent India from building momentum, forcing the visitors to settle for a below-par score.
While Iyer held the innings together, the lack of substantial partnerships meant India were unable to accelerate during the closing overs, leaving their bowlers with a challenging task against England's in-form batting line-up. The chase turned into a one-sided affair as England's batters dismantled the Indian attack. Harry Brook led from the front with an unbeaten 79 off just 35 balls, striking eight fours and four sixes in a breathtaking display of power-hitting. Phil Salt complemented him perfectly, remaining unbeaten on 59 from 42 deliveries, with nine fours and a six.

The duo shared an unbroken match-winning stand after England lost just one wicket, reaching the target in only 13.5 overs with remarkable ease. India's bowlers struggled to contain the aggressive approach of Brook and Salt, who maintained a high scoring rate throughout the innings. England capitalised on loose deliveries and rarely allowed the visitors to build pressure. The comprehensive victory highlighted the gulf between the two teams during the series, with England outperforming India in all three completed matches to secure the series well before the finale.
The defeat marks another setback for the reigning T20 world champions, who have now suffered back-to-back bilateral series defeats within four months of lifting the T20 World Cup title in Ahmedabad on March 8. It also continued a difficult start to Shreyas Iyer's tenure as captain. Having succeeded Suryakumar Yadav after India's World Cup triumph, Iyer has now endured five defeats in his first six matches in charge and is still searching for his maiden victory as skipper.
India had previously lost the two-match T20I series against Ireland 0-2, and the current 0-3 deficit against England has intensified scrutiny over the team's transition. With the opening match of the England series washed out, the hosts have won each of the remaining fixtures convincingly. The fifth and final T20I, scheduled to be played in Southampton on Saturday, offers India an opportunity to end the tour on a positive note, while England will aim to complete a clean sweep and strengthen their position ahead of upcoming international assignments.
