Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was announced as a key addition to the Sharjah Warriorz squad for the fourth season of the International League T20 (ILT20), set to commence on December 2, 2025. Karthik, replacing Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis, joins a dynamic team coached by former South African cricketer JP Duminy. The Chennai-born cricketer expressed his excitement, stating, “Sharjah is an iconic stadium one always wants to play at, and being part of Sharjah Warriorz makes a dream come true.” This move marks another chapter in Karthik’s illustrious T20 career, further expanding his global franchise portfolio.
Karthik’s inclusion in the Warriorz follows his stint with Paarl Royals in South Africa’s SA20 earlier in 2025, where he scored 97 runs across six innings. With over two decades of T20 experience, Karthik brings a wealth of expertise, having played 412 T20 matches and amassed 7,437 runs at a strike rate of 136.66, including 35 half-centuries. His international record for India includes 60 T20I matches, scoring 686 runs at a strike rate of 142.61. Known for his explosive batting and innovative approach, Karthik is expected to be a game-changer for the young Warriorz squad aiming to make a mark in the competitive ILT20.
Beyond his on-field prowess, Karthik’s strategic acumen enhances his value. As the batting coach for the IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he has worked closely with power-hitters like Tim David, who is also part of the Warriorz roster. Head coach JP Duminy praised Karthik’s addition, stating, “Dinesh Karthik is one of the most experienced hands and an incredibly innovative mind when it comes to T20 cricket.” Duminy highlighted Karthik’s potential to mentor younger players, noting that his dynamic personality and explosive batting will significantly boost the team’s prospects in the 34-match tournament culminating on January 4, 2026.

The Sharjah Warriorz, a relatively new franchise in the ILT20, are banking on Karthik’s experience to elevate their performance at the iconic Sharjah Cricket Stadium. His familiarity with high-pressure T20 environments, coupled with his leadership in the dugout, aligns with the team’s ambition to achieve “special things,” as Karthik noted. The ILT20, sanctioned by the Emirates Cricket Board, has grown into a prominent platform featuring global stars like Dwayne Bravo and David Warner, making Karthik’s inclusion a strategic coup for the Warriorz as they prepare for the player auction on October 1, 2025.
Karthik’s move to the ILT20 underscores his enduring relevance in T20 cricket, transitioning seamlessly from player to mentor while continuing to compete at an elite level. As the Warriorz gear up for Season 4, his presence promises to inspire both teammates and fans, bringing his signature flair to one of cricket’s most storied venues. This signing not only bolsters the team’s batting lineup but also positions Karthik as a pivotal figure in shaping the franchise’s aspirations in the Gulf’s premier T20 league.
