Dhanashree Verma is facing severe backlash for accepting ₹4.75 crore in alimony from her ex-husband, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal. The choreographer recently shared a glimpse of her latest music video on Instagram, but the comments section quickly turned into a battleground as netizens criticized her for taking the settlement amount.
One user sarcastically commented, “Mam, amount credit ho gaya account me ₹4.75 crore?” Another wrote, “Gairo ke paiso se video shoot karate dekha" (Shooting a video with someone else’s money). Others accused her of lacking self-respect, with one remarking, “If asking for dowry is a crime, then so is asking for alimony.” Some even resorted to calling her “chorni” (thief).
For those unfamiliar with the case, reports earlier this week confirmed that Chahal agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore as permanent alimony to Verma. Of this, ₹2.37 crore has already been paid. The remaining amount was flagged as non-compliance by the family court.
Meanwhile, Chahal and Verma, who got married in 2020, have officially divorced after living separately for 18 months. The couple was granted the divorce on March 20. Chahal’s lawyer, Nitin Kumar Gupta, confirmed the news, stating, “The court has granted the decree of divorce, and both parties are no longer husband and wife.”
While neither Chahal nor Verma has publicly addressed the controversy, the social media outrage reflects a broader debate around alimony and financial settlements in high-profile divorces.
