Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 62 off 64 balls, including a stunning one-handed six, guided India to a thrilling four-wicket victory over England in the first Women’s ODI, chasing down 259 with 10 balls to spare. The match marked a strong start to India’s preparations for the 50-over World Cup, showcasing their depth and composure under pressure.
India were in trouble at 124 for 4 after losing captain Harmanpreet Kaur (17), but Deepti’s 90-run fifth-wicket partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues (48 off 54) turned the game. The duo rotated the strike smartly, capitalizing on loose deliveries, while Amanjot Kaur’s quickfire 20 off 14 balls sealed the chase with flair. Deepti’s standout moment was a breathtaking six off Lauren Bell, lofting a length ball over deep mid-wicket with her bottom hand off the handle.
“Deepti’s innings was key,” said Harmanpreet, praising her team’s batting and bowling efforts. “Jemi’s calmness and Deepti’s planning made the difference, though we need to sharpen our fielding after missing two chances.”

Earlier, England posted 258 for 6, thanks to Sophia Dunkley’s unbeaten 83 off 92 balls, including nine fours, and a 106-run stand with Alice Davidson Richards (53 off 73). Young pacer Kranti Goud (2/55) struck early, while off-spinner Sneh Rana’s 2/31 kept England in check after they opted to bat. Despite conceding 20-30 extra runs, India’s disciplined bowling set the stage for Deepti’s match-winning performance.
