Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his decisive bowling spell during India’s semifinal victory over England national cricket team in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Bumrah’s figures of 1-33 played a crucial role as India narrowly secured a seven-run win in a tense contest. His key overs in the later stages of the match helped India regain control at a time when England appeared to be gaining momentum in the chase.
During England’s pursuit, batter Jacob Bethell looked determined to guide his team to victory while keeping the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium quiet. However, Bumrah’s disciplined bowling in the 16th and 18th overs significantly shifted the momentum back in India’s favour. Those crucial overs slowed England’s scoring rate and helped India tighten its grip on the match in the final stages of the semifinal.
Steyn, widely regarded as one of the finest fast bowlers in international cricket, said he was amazed by Bumrah’s ability to deliver under pressure repeatedly. Speaking during a discussion on the YouTube channel of former South African captain AB de Villiers, Steyn described Bumrah as a bowler who consistently performs in high-pressure moments and remains extremely difficult for batters to counter.

“I don’t know how Bumrah does it, honestly. This guy is incredible. That amount of pressure, and he does it all the time, not like once every now and then. He does this all the time. I can’t believe it,” Steyn said. He added that it is hard to determine the best approach for batters against Bumrah because even those who attempt to attack him often end up losing their wickets.
Steyn further emphasized the importance of Bumrah’s two crucial overs in the semifinal, suggesting that the outcome of the match might have been different without them. According to him, Bumrah’s intervention at a critical stage prevented England from completing the chase comfortably and helped India maintain their advantage.
The thrilling victory secured India’s place in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where they will face the New Zealand national cricket team. With Bumrah in strong form and delivering under pressure, India will look to carry that momentum into the title clash as they aim to secure another major ICC trophy.
