Businessman Raj Kundra continues to face restrictions from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reviews his ongoing appeal. Kundra’s ban, imposed earlier due to his alleged involvement in betting and related controversies, remains in effect until the board reaches a decision.
The BCCI confirmed that it is thoroughly examining Kundra’s appeal, which challenges the terms and duration of his suspension. “The board is committed to a fair review process and will arrive at a decision based on all relevant evidence,” a BCCI spokesperson said. The review process includes consultation with legal and compliance experts to ensure transparency and adherence to IPL regulations.
Kundra, husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, was previously banned from IPL activities following allegations of betting and gambling linked to cricket matches. The board had cited the need to maintain the integrity of the sport and prevent potential conflicts of interest as reasons for the suspension.

Legal experts note that while the appeal process can be lengthy, it allows for a structured assessment of the facts and any mitigating circumstances. The BCCI has maintained that it will communicate the final decision to all stakeholders, including franchise owners, players, and regulatory authorities, once the review is complete.
The IPL community continues to watch developments closely, given Kundra’s past involvement with franchise ownership and business interests related to cricket. Analysts say the outcome of the appeal could have implications for governance policies and the enforcement of anti-betting rules within the league.
Until the BCCI concludes its review, Kundra remains barred from all IPL-related activities, including attending matches, participating in team management, or engaging in league promotions. Both the board and Kundra’s legal team have refrained from speculating on the timeline for a final verdict.
