Gujarat has become the first state in India to dedicate a public traffic circle to the Indian Coast Guard, with the inauguration of the “Bharatiya Tatrakshak Swarn Jayanti Circle” in Gandhinagar. The landmark initiative marks the 50th anniversary of the Indian Coast Guard and aims to honour the force’s decades of service in safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
The circle, previously known as CHH-4B Circle, was officially renamed by the state government in recognition of the Coast Guard’s contribution to coastal security, maritime surveillance, environmental protection, and humanitarian operations. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, along with Inspector General Tekur Sashi Kumar, senior state officials, Coast Guard veterans, and serving personnel.
Officials stated that the initiative reflects Gujarat’s effort to strengthen public recognition of security forces and promote awareness about the Indian Coast Guard’s role in protecting the nation’s coastline. They added that this is the first public circle in the country dedicated exclusively to the maritime force, marking a symbolic milestone in civil-military engagement.

At the centre of the installation is a model of an Indian Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), representing maritime strength, deterrence, and protection of coastal borders. The design also incorporates a Dornier aircraft and an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), highlighting the force’s aerial surveillance capabilities and rapid response operations across India’s maritime zones.
The memorial space also features statues of Coast Guard personnel, symbolising vigilance, discipline, and dedication to duty. A digital display wall has been installed at the site, showcasing ongoing operations and activities of the force, with officials stating that it will help increase public awareness about the Coast Guard’s round-the-clock presence at sea.
Authorities said the circle is intended to serve as a long-term public landmark, inspiring citizens and reinforcing the importance of maritime security. The state government emphasised that the initiative highlights the Indian Coast Guard’s continuous role in national security, disaster response, and coastal protection, while fostering a stronger sense of respect and understanding for the force among the public.
