Sixteen countries will participate in the second Asian Yogasana Championship, set to take place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi from March 29 to 31 this year.
Organised in collaboration with the Sports Ministry and Yogasana Bharat, the event aims to promote Yogasana as a competitive sport while celebrating its deep cultural roots. Supported by the Olympic Council of Asia, World Yogasana, Asian Yogasana, and Yogasana Indraprastha, the championship is also a step toward securing Yogasana’s inclusion in the Olympic curriculum.
"India, the birthplace of yoga, is honoured to host this championship," said Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. "This event is not just a competition but a celebration of our ancient wisdom evolving into a modern sport. We are committed to making Yogasana a global sporting discipline, and this championship is a significant step in that direction."
Asian Yogasana President Sanjay Malpani highlighted the sport’s growing recognition. "This championship marks a defining moment in our mission to establish Yogasana as a globally recognized sport. It is a fusion of tradition and modern athletic excellence, showcasing precision, endurance, and artistry."
World Yogasana Secretary-General Jaideep Arya echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the championship’s role in elevating the sport. "This event unites top athletes from across Asia, demonstrating the strength, flexibility, and discipline of Yogasana. We are proud of its growing popularity and remain committed to its mainstream development."
Yogasana Bharat President Udit Sheth reinforced India's dedication to the sport’s future. "Our mission is to provide young athletes with a global platform and to elevate Yogasana to premier sporting events, reinforcing India’s commitment to sharing this invaluable heritage with the world."
