Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha experienced an emotional moment at the FIFA World Cup after his mother, Ana Candida Evora, was finally able to travel to the United States and watch him play in person during the team's Group H clash against Uruguay in Miami. Her arrival came just days after visa-related issues prevented her from attending Cape Verde's historic opening match against Spain. The reunion quickly became one of the most touching stories of the tournament, highlighting the personal sacrifices behind football's biggest stage.
Ana Candida Evora arrived at Miami Stadium proudly carrying a Cape Verde flag and wearing a jersey bearing her son's name and number. Ahead of the match, she thanked the many individuals and organisations who helped make the trip possible. In a message released by FIFA, she expressed appreciation for the support shown to her family and the national team while encouraging fans to continue backing the Blue Sharks as they pursue their dream World Cup campaign.
The reunion carried special significance for Vozinha, whose full name is Josimar Jose Evora Dias. Following Cape Verde's memorable goalless draw against Spain, the veteran goalkeeper had spoken emotionally about his mother's absence and the family members who were no longer alive to witness the occasion. The 40-year-old produced a standout display against Spain, making seven crucial saves as Cape Verde secured its first-ever point in FIFA World Cup history.

Speaking after the Spain match, Vozinha revealed he became emotional because his grandparents, who had played a major role in raising him, had passed away several years earlier. He also admitted feeling sadness that his mother could not attend because of visa complications. Back in Sao Vicente, one of the islands that make up the Cape Verde archipelago, Ana followed the match closely and celebrated her son's heroics from afar, saying she had always believed he would keep a clean sheet.
Efforts to bring Ana to the United States intensified after the Spain match attracted global attention. Among those who offered assistance was Chinese businessman Lin Jie, who has lived in Cape Verde for more than two decades. With support from FIFA, Cape Verde football officials and local authorities, the obstacles delaying her journey were eventually resolved. After more than 24 hours of travel, she arrived in Florida in time to witness Cape Verde's second group-stage encounter.
Ana's presence added another memorable chapter to Cape Verde's remarkable World Cup story. Vozinha has previously revealed that he did not become a professional footballer until the age of 25 and even considered walking away from the sport during difficult periods of his career. Instead, he persevered and helped guide his country to its first World Cup appearance. While his performance against Spain captured global attention, the 2-2 draw against Uruguay became even more meaningful because his mother was finally there to share the moment with him.
