The Special Olympics Bharat boys' football team has once again proven they’re a force to be reckoned with, clinching the Gothia Cup title in Gothenburg, Sweden, with a thrilling 3-1 victory over Poland. This marks their second consecutive triumph at the world’s largest youth football tournament, leaving fans and critics in awe of their grit and glory.
Leading the charge was Saheer Muhammed, who smashed an incredible seven goals to become India’s top scorer. Hot on his heels, Ankush Kumar netted three goals, while Stalin Kumar added two, and Tarun Kumar and Biki Duley each contributed one to seal the deal. Their dazzling performance in the Special Olympics Trophy category, launched in 2011, showcased the extraordinary talent of athletes with diverse cognitive abilities.
Union Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse couldn’t hold back her pride, stating, “These champions have done more than win a trophy—they’ve shattered stereotypes and ignited inspiration worldwide. This is the spirit of a Viksit Bharat, where every individual’s potential shines bright!”

The Gothia Cup, hosting over 1,900 teams from 70+ countries, is a global stage for inclusivity, and India’s triumph underlines the power of sports to transform lives. Backed by the Sports Ministry and Special Olympics Bharat, led by Mallika Nadda, alongside corporate support, the 10-player squad and seven support staff proved teamwork makes the dream work.
Khadse added, “This victory is a shining example of what happens when government, corporates, and sports federations unite. It’s not just a win for the team—it’s a win for all of India!”
