V Srinivasan, husband of Indian Olympic Association President and Rajya Sabha MP P T Usha, passed away on Friday at the age of 67. Family sources reported that Srinivasan collapsed at his residence early in the morning and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but could not be revived.
Srinivasan, a former central government employee, was widely recognized for his steadfast support of PT Usha’s career. He stood by her through her illustrious journey in athletics and later her foray into politics, playing a pivotal role behind her numerous achievements. The couple had celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in 2021.
In a message of condolence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over Srinivasan’s passing and personally called PT Usha to offer his sympathies. BJP sources confirmed the PM’s outreach, highlighting the national significance of the loss.

PT Usha has often publicly acknowledged Srinivasan’s role in her life. In a social media post marking their wedding anniversary, she wrote, “We always hear that behind every successful man there is a woman. Appreciating the man behind all my success today! Thank you for making the perfect relay team good enough not only for a sprint but for the marathon of life!”
The couple is survived by their son, Ujjwal, who tied the knot last year. Srinivasan’s passing is mourned by family, friends, and the sports fraternity, remembering him as a quiet yet indomitable presence behind one of India’s greatest sporting icons.
His demise marks the end of a chapter in PT Usha’s personal and professional journey, leaving a legacy of unwavering support, love, and shared victories that went beyond the track.
