The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering legal action against Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani after he pulled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the last minute to join the Indian Premier League (IPL). Muzarabani was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday and is set to feature for the three-time champions in the upcoming 19th edition of the tournament, scheduled to begin on March 28. He had earlier been signed by Islamabad United for PKR 11 million but opted for the IPL opportunity instead.
The PCB expressed disappointment over the decision, noting that Muzarabani’s withdrawal left Islamabad United scrambling for a replacement, as he had been drafted to fill in for Shamar Joseph. According to reports from Geo Super, the board is now exploring legal avenues to address what it views as a breach of contract by the 29-year-old fast bowler.
This is the second consecutive year that a player initially contracted with the PSL has chosen to join the IPL, with both tournaments running simultaneously. Last season, South African pacer Corbin Bosch similarly withdrew after being picked as a diamond pick by Peshawar Zalmi and later joined Mumbai Indians as an injury replacement. The trend has raised concerns within the PSL about retaining top international talent amid competing franchise leagues.

Muzarabani’s move highlights the growing appeal and financial incentives of the IPL for players around the world. The PCB’s potential legal action underscores the board’s determination to enforce contractual commitments and protect the integrity of the PSL, especially as the league seeks to maintain its standing as one of the premier T20 competitions in international cricket.
