Rajasthan Royals’ young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi endured a disappointing outing in a high-pressure IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, falling cheaply for just four runs as his team struggled in a must-win encounter.
Sooryavanshi, opening the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, started cautiously in the powerplay but failed to convert his innings into a meaningful contribution. After Jaiswal was dismissed by Will Jacks, the responsibility shifted to the teenager to steady the innings. However, just two deliveries later, he attempted an aggressive shot off Deepak Chahar and mistimed it, sending the ball towards deep point where Naman Dhir completed the catch.
The dismissal added pressure on Rajasthan Royals in a match they needed to win to stay in contention for the playoffs. The team had already made multiple changes to their playing XI, including the return of skipper Riyan Parag and the inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja and Nandre Burger, as they aimed to strengthen their lineup for the crucial fixture.

Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, opted to bowl first after winning the toss, citing the nature of the pitch and expected improvement in conditions later in the evening. Pandya noted that afternoon conditions in Mumbai tend to be more challenging for batting, particularly under the heat and humidity at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rajasthan captain Riyan Parag acknowledged the must-win nature of the contest, stating that his side was treating it as a virtual knockout and aiming to maximise their performance. With Rajasthan chasing a playoff spot and Mumbai already out of contention, the match carried contrasting pressures for both teams as the league stage neared its conclusion.
