Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced at the Khelo Bharat Conclave that the National Sports Governance Bill, set for tabling in Parliament’s monsoon session starting July 21, was drafted with extensive consultations, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), FIFA, and national stakeholders. The bill aims to revolutionize sports administration in India by enhancing accountability and transparency.
Speaking to representatives from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), National Sports Federations (NSFs), corporates, and athletes, Mandaviya revealed he incorporated 600 public suggestions, consulted sports lawyers, and even sent an officer to FIFA’s headquarters to address their queries. “The bill is ready and will be presented in Parliament,” he stated, emphasizing its robust development process.
The bill introduces a regulatory board to oversee NSFs, granting recognition and funding based on adherence to governance, financial, and ethical standards. It also proposes Ethics and Dispute Resolution Commissions to ensure transparency, though the IOA has raised concerns about its authority being undermined.

Mandaviya, who discussed the bill with former Sports Minister Ajay Maken, urged administrators to prioritize collective progress over personal interests. “It’s about ‘we,’ not ‘I.’ Let go of ego and make way for better leadership,” he said, addressing delays in NSF elections, such as those by the Boxing Federation of India. “Reforms are a step-by-step process,” he added, signaling a transformative shift for Indian sports.
