The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday demolished illegal portions of a house linked to one of the accused in the recent Uttam Nagar Holi clash case, in which 26-year-old Tarun was killed earlier this week. Civic officials clarified that the demolition targeted only unauthorised structures built over drains and was part of a broader “pre-monsoon drive” to remove encroachments that could obstruct water flow during the rainy season.
Heavy police and paramilitary forces were deployed at the site to maintain law and order during the operation. According to a senior police officer, the area was divided into zones, sectors, and sub-sectors for close monitoring, with officers ensuring no breaches occurred during the demolition. Teams from the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and neighbouring district police were deployed to support security arrangements.
Civic officials confirmed that only the “illegal parts” of the house were razed, leaving the rest of the structure intact. “Since the monsoon is approaching, we are removing illegal constructions built upon drains as they disturb the water flow. The structure was built on a drain,” a senior official from the west zone of the MCD told PTI, highlighting the administrative rationale behind the drive.

The demolition operation involved cordoning off the area while bulldozers brought down the targeted portions of the house under official supervision. Debris and dust filled the streets, drawing residents and onlookers who gathered to witness the proceedings. Police sources said the meticulous planning ensured the demolition proceeded without incidents, despite the sensitive context surrounding the case.
The action follows widespread attention on the Uttam Nagar Holi clash, which occurred on March 4 in the JJ Colony area. Police reported that the violence erupted after water from a balloon thrown by a girl from Tarun’s family splashed on a woman from a neighbouring household. The altercation escalated tragically, resulting in Tarun’s death and prompting a crackdown on illegal constructions in the vicinity.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta condemned the killing, emphasising a zero-tolerance policy toward violent and criminal acts. The MCD’s demolition drive represents the administration’s dual focus on enforcing civic regulations while responding to public concern over the recent violence. Authorities have stressed that law and order will remain a priority in Uttam Nagar as investigations continue and pre-monsoon preparations are carried out.
