India’s Anish Bhanwala, a 22-year-old Olympian and 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, clinched a silver medal in the 25m rapid fire pistol event at the Asian Shooting Championships in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, on August 27, 2025. Bhanwala scored 35 points in the final, narrowly missing gold to China’s Su Lianbofan, who tallied 36, while Korea’s Lee Jaekyoon took bronze. The Haryana marksman’s performance reaffirmed his status as India’s top rapid fire pistol shooter, upgrading his bronze from the 2023 Asian Championships in Changwon, Korea.
Bhanwala started the competition with a precision round score of 290, placing sixth after Tuesday’s 30 shots. On Wednesday, he excelled in the rapid fire round, scoring 293 for a total of 583, securing fourth place heading into the six-man final. Leading Su Lianbofan 18-17 after the first four series, Bhanwala missed one shot in the final three series, allowing the 20-year-old Chinese shooter to claim gold. Fellow Indian Adarsh Singh finished fifth in the event.
India’s trio of Bhanwala (583), Adarsh Singh (585), and Neeraj Kumar (570) secured a team silver in the 25m rapid fire pistol with an aggregate of 1738 points, trailing South Korea’s gold-winning 1748. In the non-Olympic men’s 50m pistol, India’s Amanpreet Singh (543), Yogesh Kumar (548), and Ravinder Singh (542) earned another team silver with 1633 points, behind Iran’s 1652. Yogesh placed fourth individually, while Amanpreet and Ravinder finished 10th and 11th, respectively.

India’s junior shooters also shone, with Abhinav Choudhary (541), Umesh Choudhary (529), and Mukesh Nelavalli (523) clinching gold in the men’s 50m pistol team event, totaling 1593 points to outscore Kazakhstan’s 1580. Abhinav placed fourth individually. In the junior trap mixed team event, Arya Vansh Tyagi and Bhavya Tripathi secured silver, narrowly losing 37-38 to Kazakhstan. The senior mixed trap team of Kynan Chenai and Aashima Ahlawat fell 34-38 to Kazakhstan in the bronze-medal match.
India ranks second in the senior section with 23 medals, including nine gold, behind China’s 27 medals (15 gold). The strong showing across senior and junior events, coupled with India’s industrial growth as seen in recent employment surges, underscores the nation’s rising prowess in diverse fields.
