Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, is witnessing an unusual electoral boost from an unexpected group — children and young fans who are actively influencing voting decisions in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
At campaign rallies across the state, especially in Chennai’s T. Nagar and districts like Tiruvannamalai, large numbers of children accompany their parents, many wearing party symbols and chanting slogans. While they are not eligible to vote, their enthusiasm appears to be shaping household political choices. Several parents admitted that their children’s admiration for Vijay has played a direct role in their decision to support TVK.
“I used to vote for established parties, but this time I’ll vote for TVK because my son insists,” one parent said at a rally, reflecting a sentiment echoed by others. Children have become informal campaigners, urging parents and even grandparents to back Vijay’s party, effectively turning fandom into political influence.

This phenomenon is closely tied to Vijay’s long-standing appeal among younger audiences, built through his film career and sustained engagement with students. TVK has also strategically positioned itself as a youth-centric political force, framing the 2026 election as a “generational shift” and targeting first-time and young voters through tailored messaging and policy promises. Analysts note that a significant share of Tamil Nadu’s electorate comprises young voters, making this demographic a critical battleground.
However, the influence of young fans is not uniform. Some older voters remain unconvinced, stating they will rely on experience and personal judgment rather than emotional appeals from children. Others have raised concerns about the ethical implications of involving minors in political campaigning, which is restricted under election norms.
Even so, Vijay’s youthful fan base appears to be quietly reshaping campaign dynamics. As traditional caste and party loyalties face new challenges, the growing role of young, non-voting influencers underscores a shift in how political messaging spreads — from rallies and manifestos to homes and family conversations.
