Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay has strongly condemned recent derogatory remarks targeting women cadres made by Ponraj Vellaichamy, former advisor to the late APJ Abdul Kalam and a supporter of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
Vellaichamy sparked widespread outrage on social media after reportedly referring to female TVK members as “prostitutes.” Several TVK leaders and supporters had already criticized the comments, calling them unacceptable.
Responding on his X account, Vijay issued a strongly worded statement in Tamil, describing Vellaichamy as a “mercenary individual” and an “opportunistic gambler” operating under the DMK’s support. Vijay emphasized that the comments were disrespectful to women, including mothers, sisters, and younger sisters, who “deserve pride and reverence.”

He further criticized the DMK government for failing to take action against Vellaichamy, stating, “On behalf of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, I condemn in the strongest terms the opportunistic gamblers who operate under the embrace and support of the DMK leadership. I also strongly condemn the DMK government for taking no action whatsoever against such persons.”
The controversy has reignited discussions on political accountability and the treatment of women in public life, with social media users and political observers calling for stricter responses to derogatory remarks made by public figures.
