In a dramatic twist to Punjab’s already heated political landscape, senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa has filed a formal complaint against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of doctoring a video to falsely portray him as supporting rival SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
The result? An FIR has been registered against AAP under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 336(4) for forgery, 356 for defamation, and 61(2) for criminal conspiracy, officials confirmed Friday.
At the heart of the controversy is a 3-minute-48-second video that Bajwa posted on June 25 on social media platform X, in which he slammed the Punjab Vigilance Bureau for their alleged misconduct during a raid at the home of Ganieve Kaur, a Punjab MLA and wife of Majithia. Bajwa strongly criticized what he called an illegal and insensitive intrusion into a woman’s privacy by government officials.

However, according to Bajwa, AAP allegedly snipped and edited the video, removing all references to Kaur and twisting the narrative to make it look like Bajwa was defending Majithia, who is currently under investigation in a disproportionate assets case.
“This doctored video was manipulated to suggest I supported Majithia,” Bajwa wrote in his complaint. “It was shared widely by AAP leaders on official X and Facebook pages to mislead the public and destroy my political credibility.”
Bajwa specifically named Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Minister Aman Arora, claiming they shared the altered clip on their respective social media accounts, turning it into a viral political weapon.
“What I actually said was twisted beyond recognition,” Bajwa stated. “Instead of focusing on the unacceptable actions of the Vigilance Bureau, AAP has spread lies, implying I support someone under criminal investigation.”
He alleged this campaign was a deliberate act of defamation aimed at discrediting him and the Congress Party ahead of key political battles in Punjab.
“Freedom of speech doesn’t mean the right to fabricate and manipulate videos,” he said, calling for a thorough investigation into “AAP’s leaders and their henchmen.”
As the FIR sends shockwaves through Punjab's political corridors, the ball is now in the court of the legal system — but one thing’s for sure: this controversy is far from over.
