The United States has carried out airstrikes on Iranian radar and drone control installations following the downing of an American MQ-1 Predator drone, in a sharp escalation of tensions that has further strained an already fragile ceasefire in the ongoing Iran conflict.
According to the United States Central Command, the strikes were conducted over the weekend across sites near Geruk and on Qeshm Island in Iran. The military said the operation targeted Iranian air defence infrastructure, a ground control station, and unmanned aerial systems deemed to pose threats to regional maritime traffic.
The strikes came after Iranian forces reportedly shot down a US MQ-1 Predator drone operating over international waters. In response, US fighter aircraft carried out what officials described as “measured and deliberate” attacks, aimed at disabling Iranian air defence systems and related command facilities. No American personnel were reported injured in the exchange.

Iran acknowledged carrying out retaliatory action, though details of its response remain limited. At the same time, Kuwait reported intercepting incoming drone and missile fire, highlighting the widening geographic spread of the confrontation and raising concerns about spillover into neighbouring Gulf states.
The renewed exchanges underscore the fragility of the weekslong ceasefire framework between Washington and Tehran. Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to extend the truce, both sides have continued limited but repeated military operations, keeping the region on edge and disrupting already volatile security conditions.
The broader regional situation remains tense, with Iran maintaining pressure around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor through which a significant share of oil and liquefied natural gas exports transit. Any disruption in this zone has amplified concerns in global energy markets.
Simultaneously, conflict dynamics have intensified across other theatres, including continued hostilities involving Israel and Hezbollah along the Lebanon front, further compounding instability in the wider Middle East. Analysts warn that the overlapping conflicts risk accelerating into a broader regional escalation if diplomatic efforts fail to hold.
