Congress leader and former MP Udit Raj accused authorities of forcibly evicting his family from their Pandara Park government residence in Delhi on Friday, despite an ongoing court case scheduled for hearing on October 28. The residence, allotted to his wife Seema Raj—a retired IRS officer—has been at the center of a bitter dispute since her superannuation in November last year.
In a series of posts on X, Udit Raj alleged that officials from the Directorate of Estates (DoE), acting at the behest of BJP leaders, began throwing household items onto the street early Friday morning. “We are removing our belongings ourselves to keep them safe, but officials are forcibly intervening,” he wrote, emphasizing that the family had requested a one-month extension through the court to arrange alternative accommodation.
Seema Raj confirmed she had repeatedly appealed to the DoE for additional time, citing delays due to her father’s prolonged illness and subsequent demise. “We have no intention of overstaying. We are actively searching for private housing and expect to vacate by November end,” she said, adding that the eviction was deliberately timed for a court holiday to deny them legal recourse.

Udit Raj, who previously represented north west Delhi on a BJP ticket before switching to Congress, claimed the action was politically motivated. “We are paying the price for raising our voice for Dalits and backward classes,” he declared, questioning why others—particularly “so-called upper castes” occupying larger government bungalows—face no such urgency.
The family was informed of the eviction on Thursday by DoE officers, who advised them to contact senior ministry officials. Despite attempts to reach the Director, Joint Secretary, and even Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, no response was received. Udit Raj condemned the move as “deliberate harassment” and vowed to continue his fight for social justice “without budging an inch.” No official statement has been issued by the government in response to the allegations.
