The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, has convened a crucial meeting of its newly elected legislators amid continuing uncertainty over government formation in Tamil Nadu. The meeting is being held on Thursday at the party headquarters in Panaiyur as political negotiations intensify following a closely contested Assembly election.
The development comes at a sensitive juncture, with TVK emerging as the single largest party in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly with 108 seats in its first electoral contest. Despite its strong debut performance, the party remains short of the 118-seat majority required to form a stable government, leaving the post-election scenario open and politically fluid.
Party sources said Vijay is expected to hold detailed discussions with MLAs-elect on the evolving political situation and ongoing efforts to secure support from smaller parties and independent legislators. Over the past two days, the party has reportedly been engaged in backchannel talks aimed at bridging the gap needed to reach a majority.

During the meeting, Vijay is also likely to brief legislators on the status of alliance negotiations and the constitutional process involved in government formation. He is expected to stress internal discipline, urging MLAs to remain united and avoid public statements while discussions continue behind closed doors.
The uncertainty has delayed expectations around the swearing-in ceremony, which was initially anticipated this week. Political observers say the next 48 hours could be critical in determining whether TVK succeeds in forming the government or whether rival parties attempt alternative arrangements to stake a claim.
Security has been tightened around the Panaiyur headquarters ahead of the high-stakes meeting, with large gatherings of party supporters expected outside the venue. The outcome of ongoing negotiations is being closely watched, as Vijay’s entry into electoral politics has already significantly altered Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, traditionally dominated by the DMK and AIADMK.
