Following Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Odisha's Opposition Party BJD, today Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy too has joined the fray saying delimitation is going to be a limitation for the South. He alleged the Centre was conspiring against South Indian States in the name of delimitation.
With this, it seems Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin's anti-delimitation protest is gathering momentum as desired by him.
Revanth Reddy, who is one of the seven chief ministers invited by Stalin for the meeting, said the Congress party has in principle decided to attend the meeting of political parties called by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin in Chennai on March 22 to discuss the impact of the proposed delimitation on the Southern states. However, he "would attend the meeting after taking permission from the Congress high command".
Yesterday, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged various parties in the State to attend the all-party meeting proposed by the Congress Government on the delimitation of constituencies. The delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, if carried out based on population, would harm the state's interests, Vikramarka said in an open letter to political parties.
According to Revanth Reddy, it is BJP's political vendetta and to settle scores with the South as the party has no representation in neither Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu nor in Kerala. “People defeated the BJP here," he said.
The Chief Minister said he welcomed the initiative taken by Tamil Nadu CM Stalin.
Odisha's Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) yesterday said it was committed to protecting the "interest" of State in the upcoming delimitation exercise and was not concerned about allegations of getting closer to anti-BJP platforms. The remark was made by BJD’s eight-time MLA RP Swain while responding to an allegation from the ruling BJP that his party is tilting towards the Congress. "We have to safeguard the interest of Odisha first in the delimitation exercise."
The issue arose a day after a two-member DMK delegation, comprising former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran and Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T R B Rajaa, met BJD president Naveen Patnaik at his residence to discuss the issue.
