Tejashwi Yadav was felicitated on Saturday following his appointment as the National Working President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), in a ceremony held at the party’s Patna office. Supporters celebrated the occasion by presenting him a silver crown, symbolising the leadership transition and the party’s new strategic direction.
The elevation is widely seen as a generational shift within the RJD and a move aimed at strengthening the party ahead of future electoral contests. Analysts suggest the decision will energize the organisation and position it for a more assertive role in Bihar and national politics, particularly looking toward the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Tejashwi Yadav’s political journey has been marked by rapid rise. Initially associated with sports, he entered active politics after the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections. Serving as Deputy Chief Minister in the Mahagathbandhan government, he established an independent political identity, eventually becoming the most prominent face of the RJD.

Under his leadership, the RJD emerged as the single largest party in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. Observers note that Tejashwi’s elevation combines youthful energy with strategic continuity, while party founder Lalu Prasad Yadav is expected to continue as the ideological mentor guiding the party’s vision and principles.
Founded in 1997 by Lalu Prasad Yadav, the RJD has historically championed social justice, focusing on the empowerment of backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. The party played a key role during the Mandal era and has remained influential in Bihar’s political landscape through successive elections.
With Tejashwi assuming organisational control and responsibility for electoral strategy, the RJD is poised to redefine its approach and strengthen its base. Political commentators believe this leadership move will have far-reaching implications for Bihar’s political dynamics and the party’s future role on the national stage.
