The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) marked its 27th Foundation Day on Wednesday with senior leaders reflecting on the party’s past journey and outlining its future direction. National president Sunetra Pawar addressed party workers, calling for renewed commitment towards building a “stronger, more prosperous and progressive Maharashtra,” while invoking the ideological legacy of key social reformers.
In her message, Sunetra Pawar urged party members to draw inspiration from the principles of Shiv-Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar and continue following the developmental and people-centric path associated with veteran leader Yashwantrao Chavan. She also paid tribute to late former NCP president and former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, describing his contribution as central to the party’s growth and identity.
This year’s Foundation Day held special emotional significance for the party, as it was observed for the first time after Ajit Pawar’s death in a plane crash near Baramati on January 28. Sunetra Pawar, in a post on social media platform X, expressed that while the party’s organisational strength remains intact, a personal void is felt deeply within the leadership and cadre following his passing.

She described Ajit Pawar as a pillar of support within the organisation, noting his close connection with party workers and his consistent presence during moments of both celebration and crisis. According to her, his leadership style was centred on people-first governance, with a strong emphasis on development and accessibility for ordinary citizens.
Senior NCP leader Praful Patel also extended greetings to party workers, appreciating their continued dedication to strengthening the party’s ideological outreach. He said the organisation remains committed to serving the public with determination and unity, reinforcing its long-standing political objectives in Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, NCP MP Parth Pawar said the party is moving forward under Sunetra Pawar’s leadership with renewed confidence and a continued focus on inclusive development. He highlighted the party’s emphasis on issues affecting farmers, workers, youth and marginalised communities, stating that Ajit Pawar’s developmental vision continues to guide its approach to governance.
The Maharashtra unit of the NCP, in a separate statement on X, said the party’s 27-year journey reflects its consistent engagement with public issues and its commitment to social welfare. It added that the organisation has remained aligned with the aspirations of citizens and continues to strengthen its presence through grassroots support and long-standing political work.
