Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin embarked on a week-long trip to Germany and the United Kingdom on Saturday, aiming to attract high-value industrial investments and strengthen the state’s position as a global manufacturing hub. Speaking to reporters at Chennai International Airport before departing, Stalin outlined the visit’s goal to secure new Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading firms, with a return scheduled for September 8. The itinerary includes meetings with executives from Siemens, BMW, and Rolls-Royce in Germany, and discussions with UK-based tech and renewable energy companies in London.
Since the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) assumed power in 2021, Stalin highlighted that Tamil Nadu has attracted ₹10.62 lakh crore in investments through 922 MoUs, creating job opportunities for 32.81 lakh people. “Most projects are nearing completion, and several companies, including Tata Motors and VinFast, have commenced production in Thoothukudi and Tiruchirappalli,” he said, refuting opposition claims from the AIADMK that investment promises remain unfulfilled. Recent data from the Tamil Nadu Industries Department shows that 65% of these projects, including semiconductor plants in Chennai and green energy initiatives in Coimbatore, are operational or in advanced stages.
Stalin’s trip follows a successful US visit in 2024, where he secured ₹9,000 crore in investments from Microsoft and Google. In Germany, he will attend an investor summit in Munich, pitching Tamil Nadu’s robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and single-window clearance system. In the UK, talks with Oxford University aim to foster R&D collaborations in AI and biotechnology. The state’s Guidance Tamil Nadu agency has set a target of ₹2 lakh crore in new investments, focusing on electric vehicles, aerospace, and renewable energy, aligning with Tamil Nadu’s goal to become a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Addressing political challenges, Stalin dismissed concerns about the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance’s stability, stating, “New voters are joining DMK, regardless of new party alignments.” He also weighed in on Bihar’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ supporting allegations of electoral roll manipulation by the Election Commission, saying, “Tamil Nadu’s vigilant voters and systems can thwart any such conspiracies.” Social media posts reflect mixed sentiments, with DMK supporters praising Stalin’s global outreach, while critics question the tangible outcomes of previous foreign trips. The visit, coinciding with Tamil Nadu’s Global Investors Meet in January 2026, underscores Stalin’s aggressive push to position the state as India’s investment powerhouse.
