The mysterious death of a NEET aspirant at Shambhu Girls’ Hostel in Patna has triggered widespread criticism of the Bihar government and police, with questions raised over the pace and direction of the ongoing investigation. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with probing the case has yet to provide any definitive conclusions, fueling public concern and political controversy.
Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, has been vocal in questioning the state authorities’ handling of the case. In a recent post on X, she criticized the Bihar government and SIT for their silence on crucial details, while calling the responses from the Home Minister “routine” and insufficient.
“Directionless investigation… an attempt to mislead!!” she wrote, alleging that the police are presenting new, confusing theories daily despite post-mortem findings and available evidence clarifying several aspects. She also highlighted the lack of action against the alleged responsible parties, including hostel operators, local hospitals, and certain police officials.

Rohini further questioned why the main accused has not yet been arrested and criticized the Chief Minister for remaining silent. She accused the government and police of deliberately delaying the investigation to protect the culprits, asserting that the matter is being allowed to fade away under pressure.
The incident occurred on January 6, when the student, preparing for the NEET-UG examination, was found unconscious in her hostel room. She was admitted to a private hospital but succumbed to her injuries on January 11. A post-mortem conducted at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) noted that sexual assault could not be ruled out.
Political leaders and the public continue to demand accountability and faster action. The controversy has intensified scrutiny of the Bihar government’s law enforcement mechanisms and highlighted concerns about the safety and welfare of students in private hostels.
